Top 10 Basketball Training Lifts

The biggest guess that basketball players fail to be as athletic as football players time and time again is because they don't want to get in the weightroom and get stronger. It's a shame that so many players aren't willing to do this because there could be some seriously freaky athletes out there.

Look at players like LeBron James and Ben Wallace. They train hard for basketball, and although they may be naturally strong, they obviously understand how foremost their strength is to their game.

Because you and I probably aren't as natural as Ben Wallace or LeBron, we are going to have to strap up and get serious about getting stronger.

There are legitimately strength coaches now who won't work with basketball players because of their horrible attitude towards the weightroom. I think it's a perfect shame that it's come down to this.

Basketball players need to fight back.

There are any reasons getting stronger is so foremost for basketball training. First of all, most basketball players want to growth their vertical leap. To inaugurate your body 35 or more inches into the Air takes a serious level of strength.

If a shotputter can bench press 500+ lbs and only has to throw a 16 lb shot, fantasize how strong you need to be to throw your whole body into the Air.

Having said that, I wouldn't advise that basketball players squat and deadlift right away. There are too many factors that go into those lifts that could make them perilous for basketball players.

If you're over 6'4," don't worry about squatting and deadlifting from the floor for now. Just go ahead and get strong on singular leg movements and rack pulls from pins.

There are ten lifts in the weightroom that basketball players legitimately need to focus on:

In the lower body, you should be getting very strong on:

1.)Bulgarian Split Squats. Ideally pause these for 5 seconds in the bottom. Two other good singular leg movements are
2.)reverse lunges and
3.)single leg squats. To round out the lower body, hit
4.)glute ham raises and
5.)rack pulls hard for the posterior chain.

For your basketball training, don't neglect the upper body.

6.)Hit push presses,
7.)Chinups,
8.) one arm Db bench presses hard.

For your abdominals, forget the situps and hit abundance of
9.) ab wheel rollouts and
10.)front and side planks.

Those movements right there will get you as strong as you need to be for basketball.
